I've always thought Rich Beem might be a lot better player than he is given credit for. I base this on the fact that he started in obscurity, went through all 3 stages of Q-school T8 in 1998, won the Kemper in his 12th start on the PGA Tour in 1999. He then, by his own admission, went on a 2 year party. By 2002 he'd about had it and was near broke. In June of 2002 he finished 2nd at the Kemper then in August won the International which got him into the PGA which he won the next week beating Tiger down the stretch. Now he had both money and a 5 year exemption. For what ever reason the last 5 years have produced little and now he has to play well to stay on the tour. My point is he appears to be able to really play when he needs to and we will find out the next 2 days.

Another player I would start backing every week is Ryan Moore. I think his wrist injury has held him back but it is all better now. The fact that he could play reasonably well last year taking the club straight up was amazing.

and God Bless Aaron Baddeley for that bogey on the last hole to give us a Tiger-Phil pairing again. Just three shots off the lead all eyes will be on this penultimate group and you can bet your bottom dollar both Wetterich and Aaron Oberholser would be shooting nervous glances in the direction of the leaderboard. I wonder on which side of the bed Phil wakes up from. So far he has matched Tiger in both the rounds that they have played together. It helps that the two best players in the world don't seem to share the best of relationships. So when they are paying together it’s always going to make tongues waggle and all eyes would be on how the other player reacts after each shot. Being the top two players comes with the added burden of being civil to each other and hence I am disappointed that Rory could not turn in a better round. Boy, it would have been some fun had he managed to find a place alongside Tiger in the final round. Tiger would have had to flip between chasing the $10 Million bounty and wanting to attack Rory Sabbatini with his golf club. When Tiger and Phil walk out on the first tee, there will definitely be a great amount of friction between the two of them and it only remains to be seen whether it will spur both of them towards the Deutsche Bank Championship.
