H-Town spotlighted on Golf Channel's Morning Drive this weekend
HOUSTON – This weekend, the Golf Channel’s Holly Sonders and Matt Ginella are here in town doing segments for Morning Drive from TopGolf Houston. They’re going to be hanging out at TopGolf Houston, which is located off I-10 near Katy. The new complex, which is a driving range on steroids, packs ‘em in every weekend. They’re expecting a crowd of at least 100 during the live segments (there will be way more than that at the huge facility), creating kind of a live game-day experience.
Anyway, I really like TopGolf, not for practice so much as just to have a good time. It’s not really golf; it’s more like a golf-like game and a perfect way to introduce new players to our sport in a friendly, nonthreatening atmosphere. Plus the food, big screens, bars, music are terrific.
Ginella also was here last week doing his “Runways to Fairways” show and he learned a few things while he was here in my hometown, the Bayou City. He started the show at Tour 18 Golf Club, America’s original replica course, and he profiled a couple more courses and personalities as well, including my friend Charlie Epps, now the director of golf at Champions Golf Club. The part you should really pay attention to is the segment on Gatlin’s Barbecue. I did and immediately went out and got some. There’s also a good segment on TopGolf.
One thing Matt will always have over me, though, is learning the Two-Step. I’ve been here for 25 years (and nearly 40 years in Texas) and I’m still resisting.
I’ve got a few favorite courses as well, and you can read about them here.
Morning Drive will air live Saturday, 6-7 a.m. CT, and Sunday, 6-7:30 a.m. CT. Top Golf is located at 1030 Memorial Brook Blvd. in the Energy Corridor
