Troon tees it up for active military and disabled veteran golfers
With all the bad things happening in the world, here’s something nice from the folks at Troon.
The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based golf course management company has announced a new program to show its appreciation for the service of active duty U.S. military personnel and severely injured U.S. combat veterans by making golf more accessible and affordable. It’s called “Troon’s Troops,” and the program is now available year-round at more than 50 participating Troon Golf daily-fee and resort facilities.
Troon courses aren’t the only courses around the country to offer veteran discounts. Many offer special deals and even free golf on occasion, especially on holidays, but Troon’s program is pretty comprehensive.
“On behalf of our active duty U.S. military and severely injured U.S. combat veterans, I want to thank Troon for creating Troon’s Troops to ensure we leave no one behind on the field of battle,” said retired Army Major Ed Pulido, senior vice president of Public Relations & Military Affairs for the Folds of Honor Foundation and Warriors for Freedom. “Working together with Troon facilities, we are providing expanded opportunities for our heroes to enjoy the freedom of playing the game of golf. Thank you and remember that freedom is never free.”
Basically, here’s how it works: Active duty military personnel and combat veterans who have valid disability certification indicating a disability rating of 70 percent of more will get up to 50 percent off standard golf fees at Troon Courses. They’ll have to show a valid military ID or disability certification upon check-in, and they can reserve tee times up to two days in advance.
Additional benefits include half off Callaway rental clubs, 10 percent off merchandise at participating golf shops and 10 percent off at participating golf course restaurants.
“Troon’s Troops is just one small way we can give back to those brave men and women who sacrifice so much serving their country,” said John Easterbrook, executive VP, Operations at Troon. “This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for all that they do.”
