Thinking Poipu Bay: Soon it will be golf in Hawaii time
The President’s Cup is over (and U.S. Captain Fred Couples feels vindicated for picking Tiger Woods), Thanksgiving is this week, and silly season is upon us. Before you know it, the PGA Tour will be cranking its season up all over again, which means it’s time to start thinking about golf in Hawaii.
When it gets too cold to play golf in much of the country, it’s perfect most of the time on the Hawaiian Islands. Lucky for us, the golf and the resorts there are great as well, so if you’ve been thinking about a golf trip to Hawaii, there are several great choices.
One option would be to visit the island of Kauai and stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa. The Grand Hyatt is where you’ll find Poipu Bay Golf Course, the former home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. While it no longer has that event, the wonderful Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course remains, and it’s better than ever, having recently undergone a transition to paspalum grass that also include a bunker renovation. Poipu Bay has several holes that run on the bluffs high above the Pacific Ocean.
Right now, the Grand Hyatt, which also has incredible dining and a terrific spa, is offering what it calls its Balance Package. That includes a daily breakfast buffet for two as well as round of golf for one at Poipu Bay.
