Puerto Rico is calling with an easy golf vacation
If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to take a golf vacation to Puerto Rico, here’s an offer for you: The Gran Melia Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico is offering a two-night package for two that includes two rounds of golf, daily breakfast buffet for two, 50-minute Swedish massage and 15 percent off shoe and bag rentals.
Located just outside of San Juan, this is the same spot where the PGA Tour players stayed for the Puerto Rico Open. And it’s the same golf club as well – Trump International. Located right next to the Gran Melia, Trump International has two courses – both designed by Tom Kite. The par-71, 7,500-yard Championship Course at Trump International was the host course of the tournament, and is available for guests of the Gran Melia.
I was down there for the Puerto Rico Open, and I can tell you this is a pretty choice destination with terrific beaches, lots of good food and friendly people. The Gran Melia, which recently underwent a renovation, has several great restaurants, including Pasion by Chef Myrta, which serves authentic Puerto Rican cuisine like mofongo, a dish of mashed plantains stuffed with seafood, meat or veggies.
The great thing about Puerto Rico is that you don’t need a passport, the currency is the dollar and pretty much everybody speaks English (for those of us who haven’t followed through on Rosetta Stone). It’s pretty easy to get there with direct flights from New York, Miami, Dallas and Houston, and getting around Puerto Rico, which is less than 100 miles wide, isn’t too hard either.
Cost for the Gramd Melia package is $425. For more information or to book a package, click here.
