Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert off to rousing start in 2011
Desert Willow Golf Resort, which is owned by the city of Palm Desert, Calif., is already one of the finest municipal golf facilities in the country. With the recent completion of a $4.8 million clubhouse and facilities renovation, it became that much better.
Already, the Palm Springs area resort, which is operated by KemperSports, boasts two really very enjoyable Michael Hurdzan/Dana Fry-designed championship golf courses ? the Firecliff and Mountain View courses. (Check out Katie Denbo’s resort review on GolfCalifornia.com here.) The renovation project included an expansion of the resort’s 33,000-square-foot clubhouse’s Lakeview Terrace to 250 seats, a redesigned lobby bar and Firecliff Ballroom, and the addition of a new banquet lobby , new outdoor vista bar and an expansion to the parking lot.
The result is more restaurant seating, a greater capacity for tournaments and more places to check out the surrounding views. It also means more meeting space and newer equipment for groups that want to hold meetings in the Firecliff Ballroom.
Palm Desert Mayor Jean Benson said the renovation elevates Desert Willow Golf Resort to whole new level.
“These improvements will also make Desert Willow Golf Resort one of the area’s finest venues for dining and special events,” she said. “The views and (atmosphere) of the Lakeview Terrace are truly spectacular.”
