PGA National Resort and Spa in south Florida is the complete golf package
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – If you’re obsessed with golf, you’d be hard-pressed to beat PGA National Resort & Spa, the home of the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic. Not only does it have five terrific golf courses all in one location, but there are two top-flight golf schools, tour-level clubfitting services and a fitness program specifically designed to get the most out of your golf game.
Located next to the headquarters of the PGA of America, PGA National is a golfer’s golf resort. The Champion Course, improved as part of a $65 million renovation here, has played host to some of golf’s biggest events – the Ryder Cup, PGA Championship, Senior PGA and most recently, the Honda. And just as impressive, perhaps, is the collection of peripheral courses.
For example, this morning, I played PGA National’s Squire Course. This George Fazio/Tom Fazio design, which is the shortest of the five courses at 6,600 yards, got new Emerald Bermuda greens last year, and was in as good of shape as any golf course I’ve played this year. Plus, with its doglegs, bunkering and natural wetlands, The Squire was most enjoyable. The rest of the courses at PGA National – The Haig, The Palmer and The Estates – aren’t too shabby either.
Perhaps the ideal golf trip, though, would be to start with some instruction, fitness and clubfitting. The resort is home to the acclaimed David Leadbetter Academy of Golf and Dave Pelz Scoring School. It also offers the Titleist Performance Institute, which might be the starting point for golfers looking to improve their game.
TPI’s golf fitness assessment goes a long way in explaining how physical limitations can impede a proper swing. My assessment, not surprisingly, explained why I’m so inconsistent. Once again, I’ll be starting a workout program to address my issues. I hope I can stick with it.
Anyway, right now, PGA National is offering an attractive fall package. Starting at $199 a night, visitors can get unlimited golf, daily breakfast, instruction and luxury accommodations (additional sur charge for The Champion Course). To make it even more attractive, PGA National is also giving away a $50 resort credit to offset the cost of baggage fees (Bags Fly Free promotion).
Adding the spa would be extra, but highly recommended. To book a package or for more information, click here.
