Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii offers a nice alternative to lugging golf clubs halfway around the world
KAHUKU, Hawaii – These days, more and more golfers are opting to rent clubs rather than pay the hefty airline bag fees that accompany bringing your clubs to travel destinations. The problem with that, of course, can be when you play multiple rounds, you can rack up enough fees to pay for a set of clubs.
Well, Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu has a solution. Play as much as you want for an entire week, and pay just once to rent the clubs. For $55, you get a really nice set of Titleists or Callaways or TaylorMades for the whole week ? and they’re waiting for you there at the golf shop.
No hauling them through the airport, paying the fees and trying to figure out how to fit them into the compact car you just rented. Just show up.
The resort, which plays host to the annual Turtle Bay Resort Hawaii State Open, implemented the program more than a year ago. Director of Golf Matt Hall says it has proven popular with guests and returning guests who have figured out that it’s easier to leave their sticks at home. “In many cases, our rental clubs are better than what they have at home,” he said.
The resort, which is perched above one of the best surfing spots in the world, is also offering some pretty good golf packages this year as well. For around $160 a day, guests can get unlimited play on Turtle Bay’s Arnold Palmer course and George Fazio course. Non-golf playing guests will get an $80 credit to be used toward other resort activities, including spa treatments.
