How you can support our troops through golf

If you’d like to show your support for our military personnel, here’s your chance. On and around Sept. 11, golfers at more than 100 courses in 34 states will Tee It Up For The Troops during the fifth annual National Day of Golf.

The event, through tournaments, donations and charity auctions, is designed to support fallen and disabled members of the United States Armed Forces and their families.

One of the venues is Vista Valley Country Club, the only course in the San Diego area to host a TIUFTT event.

All the funds raised this year at Vista Valley on Sept. 14 will go directly to athletic and rehabilitation equipment for the new Wounded Warriors Battalion physical therapy rehabilitation center at Camp Pendleton. John and Terri Havens, owners of the country club, will donate the greens fees for the event, allowing troops to play for free all day.

“As fellow human beings, we have the responsibility to support individuals who risk their lives for us each day,” Ledenbach said. “As San Diegans, the cause is even closer to home, with Camp Pendleton, specifically, only a stone’s throw away from the country club.”

The Accidental Golfer The Accidental Golfer

The Accidental Golfer (AKA Mike Bailey) has spent more than 15 years writing about the game that has brought him unbridled joy and temporary bouts of insanity. Now on staff at WorldGolf.com, Bailey is a former senior editor for PGA Magazine, senior writer for Golfweek's SuperNEWS and Turfnet magazines and past president of the Texas Golf Writers Association. He has covered every facet of golf, including the PGA and LPGA Tours, equipment and course architecture, as well as the bane of his golfing existence: instruction. The last has led to at least 30 different golf swings, which all feel different but appear to his playing companions to be the same.
