You make a really good point here. Often when I tell aquaintances I don't play golf well at all, they say, Really? But you're so athletic. How I wish that was all it took.

The converse of your statement is also true:"Great golfers are for the most part not great athletes."

The same could be said for chess players.

Perhaps the most difficult sporting activity of all is three-cushion billiards.

For years Willie Hoppe held the record at 35 consecutive billiards. I have played the game for many years, I am fairly proficient at it , and my greatest run has been five.

But one doesn't have to be an athlete to play the game. The same with golf.
