Brainerd Lakes is Minnesota's "go-to" golf destination

Tuesday September 8, 2009 | 10:28:05 am 166 words, 2873 views

You can burn through multiple tanks of gas traversing all of Minnesota’s highways, byways and fairways in search of the state’s best golf. But if time and efficiency are the watchwords, there’s one single destination that will satisfy: Brainerd Lakes Region, less than three hours from the Twin Cities.

Even the most ardent golfer will find a full week’s worth of excellent venues in very close proximity. On the “to-do” list: Deacon’s Lodge, a first-rate Arnold Palmer design. Grand View Lodge, with two fine choices: The Pines course, and even better, The Preserve course. There’s Golden Eagle Golf Club, Whitebirch at Breezy Point Resort, and The Classic at Madden’s.

All in all, what’s known as The Brainerd Golf Trail offers over 180 holes of golf and 5 distinctive, “old school” lodging properties all within a 45-minute drive. It’s a stellar lineup, and the fact that the region is far better known for boating, fishing and all manner of lake activities makes this estimable golf presence even more impressive.

I once was a keen hockey player but a ligament injury in my wrist has put me out of the game.

I have been wondering how I can replace my hockey activity and I think Golf is the answer!

Your little guides are really good and have helped me visualise myself as a golf player rather than restricting myself to the driving range.

Thanks!

Brainerd being made forever famous from the movie Fargo. Watch out for those car salesmen pushing the Tru-coat.

And it seems most hockey players ARE good golfers.

nice coverage about our state, joel. next visit you should try golf in the twin city metro area. and 'golf equipment repairs' should get to breezy point for a lesson with pro mark johnson. most of us are ex hockey players here, but mark can scan a 50-station driving range and pick out every single ex hockey player banging balls! its uncanny.
explore minnesota golf and i'll see you on the tee.

Wait isn't Brainerd where the logging guy statue is, like in the movie Fargo, Brainerd?

The Paul Bunyan statue in Brainerd? As they say up there, "Yah, you betcha!"
