Michelle Wie saw the writing on the wall at LPGA's Ginn Tribute
Is there anybody out there who is really buying Michelle Wie’s excuse that she re-aggravated one of her wrists and that was the reason she withdrew from the Ginn Tribute?
Get serious.
Feeling the need to follow-up on an earlier blog - one that now seems rather prophetic, I think - I have to say that Wie simply saw the writing on the wall at the Ginn. On the one hand, the LPGA has an 88-rule: Any non-tour member who shoots 88 or higher is barred from competing in LPGA Tour events for the remainder of the year. On the other, the Big Wiesy was poised to put up a monster number. She was at 14-over-par when she walked off the tee on her 17th hole (after a confab with her manager and parents). She had played 16 holes…you mean to tell me she could not finish two more?
Nonsense. Wie saw the likelihood that she would lose two more strokes - given that her round included double bogeys, triple bogeys and a 10 on one par-5, let’s say high likelihood of losing two more strokes - so she bolted to avoid being disqualified from other LPGA events this year.
She was in the media tent soon after her round, and promptly assured the press how much she wants to play next week’s McDonald’s LPGA Championship, for which she has a sponsor’s exemption. Oh, that wrist injury? “Yeah, you know, it felt good when I was practicing but, you know, I kind of like tweaked it in the middle of the round a little bit,” she told reporters. “So, [I’m] just taking caution measures, and I know what to work on.”
Does that sound like a serious enough injury to withdraw from an entire tournament? I kind of like tweaked it…a little bit ?
Folks, it doesn’t get more obvious than this. Rather than stand behind her abysmal round - or, hey, here’s a thought, try to make a few pars - Wie got scared. She was at the Ginn on a sponsor’s exemption and was surely a big draw.
If I’m Annika Sorenstam, I’m pissed off at Michelle Wie.
If I’m one of her legions of fans, I’m defending her.
But if I’m anyone with half a brain, I’m simply not surprised. Right now, Michelle Wie is just a name - one that commands far too much attention.

Nobody cares, because their names aren't Michelle Wie.
She withdrew from an lpga tournament. Get over it.
She lied and quit due to poor play . . . she should apologize to the woman whose spot she took. What a disgrace to the game. Who WD's more, John Daly or Michelle Wie?
rock bottom she makes me start digging!
Lets recap: Caught cheating twice - including her
first tournament as a pro. Dropped out twice
just becuase she was playing bad, two last place
finishes in a row, blamed caddy for bad play and
fired him... What next?
I also noticed that usually she waits until after
playing poorly to make excuses, but this
tournament she was actually giving excuses BEFORE
even hitting the ball - wow!
Sad, but funny and entertaining too. I can just
picture the Nike folks cringing in their meeting
room - d'oh!
It is a sad situation but BJ Wie did this to his very talented child. It is hard to see how she will ever recover to achieve the greatness that was expected. She has lost the wonderful smile and joy of playing golf. Her pro contract is now a burden that is crushing her in many ways.....but hey BJ enjoy the money.......
I'm sitting here in my hotel room in Worthington, Ohio after viewing some excellent golf at the Memorial today.
I promised myself that I wouldn't post anything about Bubbles until I returned to the Chicago area on MOnday.
But today around noon a buzz went though the galleries at Dublin about Bubbles' latest tank job. Most people on the course couldn't have cared less, but a few like myself found it incredible that such a fraud could actually be perpetrated in full view of a live audience,
Now that I've heard the particulars of Bubbles' latest caper, I have this to say to ant remaining Wie Warriors: Give up. Turn in your membership cards to Wiebots International. It's over.
If Bubbles says her "injury" prevented her from completing the last two holes of her round, and then says she can't wait to tee it up next week at the LPGA, and you believe it, you have lost it. You're sick. You need more help than I can give you.
Have you no honor? Surely you're not fooled by the transparent deception being perpetrated by the Wies here. And to be honest, as much as I find the Bubbles distasteful, I'll place the majority of the onus on her parents; they are responsible for this charade as they have failed to provide the proper guidance for their daughter. They are liars and phonies, and it's unfathomable that you would still defend these people.
But you're always good for a chuckle though.
One news release said that during the search for one of Bubbles' numerous errant shots, Bj, Bo, and a "family friend" were ON THE COURSE looking for her ball. WHAT? Since when are spectators allowed to go inside the ropes to rummage around in the weeds?
Also, it was widely reported that on at least two occasions BJ again went inside the ropes to question an official about rulings.
Greg Nared, Bubbles' agent, reportedly was walking and riding around the premises talking profusely on a cell phone in blatant violation of the no-cellphone rule.
Finally, Nared confronted Bubbles ON THE COURSE between the seventh green and the eighth tee where they conversed for at least a few minutes before Bubbles announced that "WE aren't playing anymore."
Which brings up this question: Who in the hell do these people think they are?
BJ, Bo, and her agents and entourage have shown themselves to be nothing but a gang of lying, conniving, money-grubbing scammers. And they seem to have imparted these character flaws to Bubbles as well.
What should concern them now is that Bubbles' golf game has gone over the cliff and may still have a long way to drop before it hits the river bed.
One thing I couldn't help but notice is that the Wie-wee's aren't making the usual glowing predictions for their idol. Even Jim C won't verify his previously absolute prognostication that Bubbles will definitely win the LPGA championship.
Judge, you're going to have to hold the fort. I'm off to see the real pros at Muirfield. There we won't have mothers, fathers, or agents allowed inside the ropes to give officials a ration of excrement.
Have a great time at the tournament.
I have to say something else about the Bubbles. I think there is no doubt that Alex and others were spot-on correct when they warned of the damage that the unorthodox career path chosen by the Wies could do to the girl's psyche. After all, how does a player of her abilities (and she is talented) go 14 over for 16 holes on an LPGA layout? It's unfathomable to me; my golf skills aren't equal to hers (yet) and I can't imagine shooting such a score on a women's tract.
The only explanation is that she is experiencing a psychological breakdown. Remember, this isn't just poor play; it's part of a pattern and more like of 10 handicap golf.
I'll go so far as to say that Bubbles may actually be afraid to step on the first tee in a tournament at this point, as she just may be deathly afraid of perpetuating the pattern. And the self-denial and phony positive talk won't remedy the situation; someone needs to bring her down to Earth and tell her that she must start confronting reality.
I remember her talking in an interview about playing matches against her father and saying that he "chokes." I think it may run in the family. "The sins of the father will be visited upon the child," anyone?
Please don't lose your sense of humor. Normally, you seem like such a jolly sort of person.
One question: You referred to a 17 year old Asian girl when the subject was Michelle Wie.
From what I've read, she is a natural-born American citizen who has lived her entire life in the US, was schooled entirely in the US, and will attend college in Palo Alto, also in the US.
I think it's a great stretch to call her an Asian girl, regardless of her ethnic background.
Also, there is a great difference between 8 over par for 18 holes, and 14 over par for 16 holes.
What have I done to evoke such disproportionate hostility? Hmm, have I changed, or has the situation? Something tells me that what really upsets you is that my camp's predictions are coming to pass, and you know that the good ship Bubbles, which you have a rather large investment in, is listing badly and may soon be sending up bubbles from 200 fathoms deep. Hey, putty, I'm nothing more than a purveyor of truth and, from your perspective, a bearer of bad news.
Alex, I think putt4par is starting to come unglued. Lock up the women and children and hide the firearms and sharp objects.

Ah, putty, methinks he doth protest too much!

Nope, and you still don't get it. You and the ambulance chaser are as dumb as your media pals.
You all have spent the last 3 or 4 years either crapping all over her or praising her to the heavens.
The feeding frenzy has gone unabated for so long that it's as if she was royalty that you have come to hate. Smuts, you and the ambulance chaser have used more derogatory terms on that young person. I know what you say about being pc, but you, sir, go beyond anything decently acceptable in your steady bashing of MW.
Bash Nike, bash BJ and the media who are really at fault for the spectacle but for god sake, be man enough to go after the right people.
Johnny Zipperlip... Not much of a stretch considering she hasn't played in 4 months. These ladies I mentioned are playing daily and weekly. No excuse for a +8 for either of them.
If you can excuse them, then cut the kid some slack.
As for me referring to her as an asian girl, from outside your country it looks to us foreigners like you can't kick the little korean kid enough times. She could easily be forgiven if she told you all to take a hike, America don't look to good from her point of view.
I didn't know you were a foreigner. Are you also an Asian? I still can't see how you figure Michelle wie is an Asian girl. Now you say she is Korean.
I don't know anything much about Miss Wie, but I'd have to say she is quite happy being a US citizen. She won't be telling her countrymen to take a hike any time soon.
There is no other place in this world where she could get the opportunities that she has received right here in the USA.
putt4par, in the USA we begin the names of continents like Asia and countries like Korea with capital letters.
Incidentally, I spent about 18 months in Korea in 1950-51. Excellent people there and for the most part, good allies of this country.
Yes, it does seem like old Putt-Putt has lost his grip and gone off the deep end.
He has gone into his attack mode. No longer is he the personification of the gentle Irish setter romping ahead of his master.
Now he is a snarling pit bull, threatening all in sight, even the venerable John Z who was just making a few salient points.
He and almost all of the remaining Wiebots can't seem to come to the realization that they have backed the wrong horse. Hell, I've bet on beaten favorites at the track hundreds of times, as has any horseplayer.
Wie-wee's, you've got to move on! Bubbles is now just another chapter in tha ledger of failed phenoms. Maybe you guys can glom onto the 12 year old from South Africa.
Yesterday during the weather delay at Muirfield, we talked with a marshal about Bubbles situation. She said that BJ's conduct at a PGA event would almost certainly have resulted in a two-stroke penalty and a stern warning to keep silent and outside the ropes
We saw the last four of Mark Wilson's seven consecutive birdies which he rang up on the outward nine. He shot 29 for the first nine. We thought he might approach the course record, but he came back to reality on the inward half.
I'm going to play psychologist here. I suspect that one reason we realists have drawn your ire is that you blame us for creating a negative atmosphere that has led to Bubbles' demise. But the truth is quite the opposite: It was you Wiebots who created a pressure cooker for the girl by articulating ridiculously high expectations.
If everyone had been like me, Bubbles would have been told that, because she was a girl, it was ridiculous to expect her to be able to compete on the men's tour. Then, even if she had been foolish enough to pursue that course, she would have proceeded with extremely little pressure. But you Wiemen piled it on, setting the bar so high that there was no prospect of her being able to clear it. YOU are the ones who have sunk the USS Bubbles.
Lastly, you really act as if your happiness is hitched to Bubbles' star. In reality, however, her success or failure isn't going to make a bit of difference in your life.
Oh, given your unraveling mental state, I prescribe 50 cc of Thorazine. I fear that you may be a danger to yourself or others.
All your comments are racist in between the lines your an Asian who lives in the US who is living the American dream and still trashing us how we talk trash about Wie, get life dude or dudette and thank God or who ever you wish to thank that you are living in a country that allow you to speak your mind if you were living some where else you will be jailed like a loser...... respect the US people respect this country it is the best place on the planet, respect that we speak what we see and we dont trash just to trash, the whole world is saying Wie SUCKS!!!!!!!!! and if your not happy join the Wie world you may find some one who will speak your smart jack ass language..........
I believe putt4par has posted that he is a Canadian living in Edmonton in the province of Alberta.
I don't know about his racial heritage, nor does it matter to me.
He's basically a pretty good fellow with whom Judge and I butt heads on a lot of occasions.
Ease off, my friend. Don't take things you read on these blogs so seriously.
Many of those posting here, myself included, like to play "devil's advocate."
It wouldn't be any fun if everybody nodded their heads in agreement like the Wie-wee's do, now would it?
Nobody wants you to go away.
I am a Wie skectic and I need all the help I can get.
Please give us some more comment. Alex
