ADT Skills Challenge Was a Snoozer

Monday December 29, 2008 | 20:45:35 136 words, 17834 views

I was flipping through channels this last weekend and saw about 5 minutes of the ADT Skills Challenge that was won by the Normans (Greg and his son Gregory). Was this thing really on for two hours?

Oh boy, what a snoozer. It was like watching someone hitting balls at the driving range. Sure professional players hit some impressive shots, but that is what they get paid to do. There were so few people on the course (perhaps it was closed to the public), the number of media types, caddies and hangers on probably numbered only about 50 people.

It was kind of charming that the pros were paired with their caddies, but to spend two hours watching aged professionals hit balls is a bit boring to say the least. Can’t wait until the season gets started again.

SERIOUSLY!?!? You mean the caddies hitting the ball into the hole wasn't sweet enough for you? Achatz won three skills, as I recall, and wee Gregory Norman won another. When Rocco lipped out to almost steal the skills challenge from the Normans, WOW and WHAMMY!

Speaking of which, I'd agree if your complaint had related to the similarity of Skills Challenge to FedEx Cup. Didn't Mediate and Achatz go into the last skills challenge with a big lead and somehow lose? Kind of like Camilo losing to Vijay, even though he had the better record in the four cup events. Never get it right, do they? Always an attempt to rig the election that never pans out.

Don't know if you saw this article...I like Tom Coyne a lot, but I had to laugh at the prospect of caddying for this event. Caddying for this event meant staying upright behind your bag and your man.

I would be really upset if I went to the resort toting my golf clubs only to find out that I couldn't play due to the ADT Skills Challenge.

Unless, of course, they invited me to give it a go!

Move over Greg, Rocco!

It looked like they were hitting to one green the whole time...only the 18th hole was indisposed, I think.

It seems that the ADT has been struggling to find a winning formula. Personally, I liked it better when it was an individual competition and involved only pros.

Having said that, it's a silly season event and has to be viewed in that light. Like anything else, you either like such things or you don't. I watch it, and, although it wasn't the most exciting event to come down the pike, I found it captivating enough (then again, I was watching it while doing some work).

I couldn't agree with you more! It was so dull. We are working on something here in the UK which will hopefully add a bit of INTERESTING variouty to the game of golf on TV. We're not looking to over take it, just to run along side it. take a look: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EvB-e9oEmiI
