Barry and I had this discussion about Tiger Woods and his Nike contract yesterday as we were watching the Buick Invitational. Where I was under the impression that professional golfers under a contract were bound to use the equipment that they advertise, I understand that it's different for Woods.

Tiger could hit a beautiful shot with my left-handed golf clubs. It's not necessarily the arrow but rather the indian.

Speaking of which...

P.S. I love my Titleist 905T and the 904F fairway woods although when I have come across another "lefty" who wants to try the driver, they don't have as much success with it as I do.

Stacy Tiger has stated his Nike contract allows him to drop any brand club in his Buick bag if he is not satisfied with the Nike club result. I agree that Nike sticks are some of the most difficult to hit and I believe Tiger, Michelle and Paul Casey are the few Nike sponsored players on tour stuffing Nike Blades in their bags. Most are using a Nike tour cavity back. It is a testimony to Tiger that he has been able to be as successful as he has with Nike clubs.

I've hit the Sumo Squared and it hits the same as the Sasquatch (all over the place). It swings like a brick tied to a rope and finally Nike made it look like one.

When I let someone hit my TaylorMade R7 460 an instant smile comes across their face as they crush the ball.

Somehow, there's always this lingering feeling that if Tiger could put his drives on the fairways consistently, he would have won 50% more tournaments.

Would his achivement in the long run ultimately be hampered by a less than perfect driver that he has to use because of contractual obligation with Nike?

As far as I know, unlike TaylorMade, there are no non-Nike staff who use Nike driver on tours.

Perhaps Lefty was right when he said that Woods was using inferior equipment.
