Most athletes who rise to the top of their game have parents supporting them along the way. Perhaps you forgot the effort Earl put into promoting Tiger along the way. Recall the Tonight Show appearance when he was four years oldthe remainder of the field also was backing up and eventually I think she qualified 57th. BJ Wie was vocally exhorting his daughter the entire time I was watching, many times while the other players were hitting. Much of his exhortation was in Korean and the rest was unintelligible. But it did happen. His most egregious abrogations of golfing etiquette were his walking around, talking, and even laughing while the other players were putting. Not surprisingly, he went dead silent when it was Michelle's turh to putt. Kyle, I go to several tour events every year...

Michelle, had potential to make a mark in Golf. But I think she had been badly directed to play in the number of men's tournaments. It would be different if she had performed well, but the bottom line is that she was an embarassment to ladies golf and perhaps has tarnished the LPGA's image. At least Annika had the sense to put her involvment in her only men's tournament in perspective. I don't know why Michelle has to take a spot on the men's tour and fail miserably. Michelle, I think has potential, but her management team has pushed her too far too quickly. In short, she is competitive, but she is no "Tiger Woods". With Annika, she at at least has earned respect for the men's game. Let's put it this way, if Annika could not make the cut.....what makes Michelle think she can. Michelle better put some wins under her belt and concentrate on competting up with her peers.

WHOOPEE she can hit a golf ball, last I heard she hasn't won a tournament in 3 years. Tiger doesn't win in a couple months and he's in a real slump. Great marketing, poor results as far as accomplishment. As Tiger stated when he came on tour, "I did't come out here to come in 2nd".
It seems her handlers are more interested in $$$$'s and less in Michelle accomplishing something worthwhile. A number of pro's have said on more than one occasion, she should concentrate on the LPGA, if for no other reason than to give her a chance at some of the more challenging endeavors she wants to persue after she has gain some seasoning.

Perhaps Morgan Pressel can focus on winning some real golf tournaments, and less on opening her big mouth to criticize Michelle Wie, or behaving like Anna Kournikova of Tennis, all fashion and no win. In sports, when losers criticized the winners, it is a demonstration of "jealousy". Please, Ms. Pressel, speak only with your golf club and real win, not with your fashion or mouth.

Annika is the best woman golfer on LPGA courses. I don't believe she is the best on longer courses, though. Wie is.

Annika really was out of her league at the Colonial. She played her best, could not break par, made maybe one birdie (?), and finished almost dead last. Michelle has made tons of birdies, broken par, shot several rounds in the 60's, and beat nearly half the field twice.

Seems clear to me who is better on those courses.
Michelle may never achieve the records that Annika has. Mostly because I don't believe she will stay around the game as long as Annika.

Wie is a girl that likes her challenges. After she has achieved her goals, climbed her mountains, why would she want to work on someone elses records. I think she'll just look at Annkas records and say "someones been there, done that. Let me climb fresh new peaks and let everyone else follow."

She's like a skier that goes heli-skiing because of the fresh unmarked snow. Wheres the challenge of following someone else.

At least thats my take on Michelle Wie.

Sorenstam is still the world's best female golfer. Can others knock her off her pedestal? In time, I'm sure.

We can only wait and see if Michelle Wie's name stands the test of time.

Stacy, I agree with you completely about Wie. She beat nearly half the PGA pro's twice, before she was 16. She proved she was among the elite U.S. men amateurs in the country at age 15, going to the quarters of a major USGA men's adult event.

Wie makes a ton of birdies. That is critical in evaluating her future. When she gets her game organized better, the sky is the limit. (I think the 15 or 20 extra yards she wants will come as a matter of course.)

Annika, IMO, is a different matter. I doubt she can play with the PGA men. At Colonial she played that first round as well as she could. Perfect ball striking: she hit almost every fairway and every green. Still did not match par. After that, reality caught up with her.

Wie has a big enough game for the men. Annika does not. She is real real short on the men's tour, while her putting and short game would also rank near the bottom. That is a deadly combination. Maybe most important of all, Annika has no desire to play against the men.
