Sappy FedEx Cup commercial lacks machismo

Friday February 16, 2007 | 11:58:28 127 words, 4014 views

“Who will be the first to kiss her?” asks the PGA Tour about it’s newly created FedEx Tiffany-designed Cup.

Did Tim Finchem really “okay” this one or was he in cahoots with Carolyn Bivens to create something syrupy for the LPGA Tour? Perhaps they swapped commercials?

Come on guys, toughen up. You’re playing for $10 million dollars, not auditioning for one of Shakespeare’s comedies.

For example,

“Drink to me only with thine eyes and I will pledge with mine", croons Dean Wilson.

“Other men have seen angels, but I have seen thee, thou art enough", warbles Sean O’Hair.

“I’d fly to the moon and back if she’d be my baby” shouts Aaron Baddeley, probably the best actor in the bunch.

Where’s the beef, guys? Valentine’s Day is over!

It's a bit sappy but funny at the same time, especially J.J. Henry.

There is no apostrophe in a possessive "its," only in a contracted "it is."

Now, on to the commercial...everything that mainstream America does is hokey...it's never edgy enough to satisfy all of us...edgy means that the young grudgingly admit that it is kind of stoke-worthy, while the middle and old hearken back to halcyon days of rebellion. The FedEx Cup is wax and cheese all around...however, check back with me in August, when I may be singing a different tune.

Unfortunately, 'her' is not the top prize. It is more like a high-priced escort. In some quarters, 'she' will be called a skank given that 'she' is open for bidding every year.

The top prizes are the majors.

The top prizes may very well still be the majors, but tell me, who can resist $10 million?

Gee, I wonder if Tiger Woods could pull off a commercial like this?
