Babies versus birdies: Is Annika Sorenstam longing for Tiger Woods' baby?

Friday January 19, 2007 | 14:43:37 244 words, 4039 views

Well, maybe not. However, with his recent announcement of a baby in the works, Tiger Woods might have given Annika Sorenstam some food for thought.

Sorenstam has just announced that she is considering giving up her career in golf to raise a family.

In fact, Annika claims (to my surprise) that she’s bored, basically “tired of golf". Sorenstam says she hasn’t unpacked her golf bag since the Lexus Cup in December and doesn’t plan to start training for the new season until it’s start in February.

Sorenstam may not even return this golf season. She may give her notice as quickly as her biological clock is ticking! All she needs is a nod from her boyfriend, Mike McGee, and I’ll bet that Annika announces her retirement before the end of 2007.

Will Annika be happy trading in her clubs for a bassinet? Isn’t she longing to crush the career records of LPGA greats Kathy Whitworth and Mickey Wright? Or could this be shades of Seinfeld? He was smart enough to know when his show was falling out of favor. Perhaps raising a child can give new meaning to Annika Sorenstam’s life.

Maybe Sorenstam is just ticked off that Lorena Ochoa beat her for the number-one spot on the LPGA Tour. Or, possibly, that Michelle Wie gets all of the camera coverage anytime she shows up for an event.

If the LPGA is getting boring for Annika, how do you think the rest of us feel?

I always thought "manika" prefered the ladies...not that there's anything wrong with that.

I don't "know" Annika, but I took the time to scan the SI piece and I suspect she means what she says. She has always seemed pretty aligned with reality in my opinon.

A) What the hell does your headline have to do with your blog? Don't tease with a correspondence, then draw nothing to it.

B) As science tells us, the boy could look like Annika, the girl could look like Tiger, and play golf like neither. No gain from matching two powerful athletes. Or, if you go the other way, the kid could play golf like Elin, or be as intelligent as Tiger.
