Harrington wins Player of the Year award; Ballesteros "stable" after brain surgery

Padraig Harrington, winner of this year’s British Open and PGA Championship titles, has become the second European to win the PGA Player of the Year award. Nick Faldo is the other player to earn the honor, in 1990. Tiger Woods came in second in this year’s points standings …

Meanwhile, five-time major winner Seve Ballesteros had surgery to remove a brain tumor yesterday. He is reportedly “conscious and stable,” but it will be several days before the results of the surgery are known. Doctors discovered the tumor when the 51-year-old Ballesteros was admitted to the hospital Oct. 6 after briefly losing consciousness …

Unfortunately Seve had to endure yet a second operation today. I truly hope and pray for a complete recovery for one of the most influential golfers of the 80's.
