Kenny Perry got closer to realizing his Ryder Cup ambitions Sunday with a win at the Buick Invitational. Perry shot a final-round 6-under-par 66 to defeat Woody Austin and Bubba Watson by a stroke. The victory likely guarantees him a spot on the Ryder Cup team, which will go up against Europe at Valhalla in September …

“I’m ecstatic,” Perry told reporters. “It really won’t sink in until I’m actually putting on the red, white and blue.”

Inbee Park gave a dominant performance Sunday to win the U.S. Women’s Open at Interlachen. Finishing at 19-under 283, the 19-year-old South Korean became the youngest Women’s Open champion …

“Really, I can’t believe I just did this, especially with all these big names on the tropy that have been very, very successful with the golf,” she told the media. “Hopefully, I’ll put a couple of my names on there. It will be great.”

While Kenny Perry got one step closer to confirming his place on the Ryder Cup team the real disappointment was the performance of Daniel Chopra. At the start of the coverage of the third round we hear Nick Faldo saying he was going to keep a close eye on how Chopra performs and a win here would have really boosted his chances of making it to the Ryder Cup team, something which he really wants or at least so it seems by the kind of statements he made after the win in Hawaii. He had three flawless days, had a nice two shot lead going into the final round and whack! He was three over after the first five holes. From a comfortable lead of 2 strokes he plummeted down the leader board like a stock buying into all the “recession” talk and was almost immediately out of contention.

In complete contrast was the performance of the rookie Pablo Larrazabal, a rookie on tour who consolidated on his overnight lead and ended up winning the tournament pretty comfortably despite some big European names being there in the field.
