Wie qualifies for 2008 Open

Tuesday June 10, 2008 | 10:08:08 am 76 words, 17256 views

Michelle Wie has qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open after scoring low on two golf courses this week. The 2008 Open will be played later this month at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn …

“I think I did pretty well. It feels good to be playing good again,” Wie, who had a lackluster 2007 season, told reporters.

In the TravelGolf.com This Week podcast, host Dave Berner talks to TravelGolf.com’s Brandon Tucker about golf in Wales.

Why is it newsworthy that Wie qualified. She made over $20,000,000 last year as a golf pro. The fact that it is newsworthy that she had to qualify and then did qualify is a complete joke.

smudge,

I strongly suspect that the $20M in emdorsements credited to Bubbles in 2007 is an exponential exaggeration.

It will also be newsworthy to some of these "journalists" when and if she misses the cut at the Open, even though she's made a career of missing cuts.

I find it interesting that Jennifer Mario is completely silent on Ms Wie's accomplishment (such as it is)....guess it's not really "championship" behavior having to qualify for the Open....*grin*

I doubt Ms Wie's contract with Nike IN TOTAL comes to 20M...so earning that much in a year is more than a bit far-fetched. ;)
