Michelle Wie won't play against men in 2008
ESPN, CBS Sports and London’s Daily Telegraph have reported that Michelle Wie will not play in men’s events and focus more on the LPGA in 2008.
“I think she just wants to reestablish herself,” Leadbetter told CBS Sports. “Obviously, after such a terrible year, her biggest goal needs to be getting her form and confidence back. You do that brick by brick.”
The reports say that Wie may consider teeing it up against the men on the Asian Tour in late 2008, however.

It's about time; better late than never. Life does have a way of humbling one, and if it gives her a few more spankings, she may actually come in touch with reality.

Judge Smails,
I couldn't help but notice that the article left open the possibility of Bubbles wangling a few more exemptions on the Asian tours.
She is still being advertised as a golf champion from Korea in many parts of Asia, so that may satisfy some of her sponsors like Nike and Sony.

Alex,
I don't think we can make the blanket statement that Bubbles could not be competitive with males. The International Junior Golf Tour hosts a boys' 12-and-under event in which I believe Bubbles might be able to contend.
Don't think I've become a Wiebot now; perish the thought. I'll be the first to say that she would probably be vanquished by a few tenacious lads who, oh, maybe could maintain composure down the stretch and sink short putts. But I have to be honest, Alex: I think she'd have a shot in the aforementioned prestigious event. I really do.

Judge Smails,
Under 12, maybe. Junior boys, never.
On the subject of sponsors, it looks like Nike has again backed the wrong horse with its big payout to Bubbles. But that's the gamble these guys like Nike take, they pay their money and they take their choice.
As big a disappointment as Bubbles has been, she is a big success compared to another bustout that got a bundle from Nike as well as others including American Express. That would be the erstwhile Olympic track star Marion Jones
The snobbish, elitist Ms. Jones is facing a six-month vacation in a federal penitentiary after lguilty to multiple counts perjury in connection with persistent lying to federal investigators about her doping before during and after the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She also was heavily involved with a multi-million dollar fraudulent check and money laundering scheme

Alex,
As far as Jones goes, it couldn't happen to a nicer gal.
I wonder if she'll be denied bail on the basis that she might run.

It now looks like Bubbles is going to take eight years to get her B.A. from Stanford. Her plan? to be a part time student and a part time golfer simply will not work. I wonder how much longer she plans on not joining the LPGA?

Joe Cool,
I'm not familiar with the academic policies at Stanford. However, as a rule prestigious instutions of learning of which Stanford would certainly be one, do not encourage undergraduates into taking abnormally long times to get a bachelor's degree.
On of my daughters attended and got her degree from Northwestern in four tears. A friend of hers required five years since she got married while attending. The bigshots at the university allowed it, but made it clear that they frowned on it.
Conversely, my other two girls attended the University of Illinois where it was common for struggling students to take six, eight, or even more years to get a diploma.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

Alex,
Thanks for your information about the college time frame. The 2008 season should prove interesting for MW. The Wie camp has not committed themselves to any type of schedule for 2008. It looks like MW will have to qualify for the LPGA majors in the coming year. We will have to wait and see what the future brings Bubbles.
