Conditions better than expected at East Lake Golf Club for FedEx Cup finale

Wednesday September 12, 2007 | 04:55:35 am 132 words, 1630 views

The good news for the PGA Tour in the days before the final event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the Tour Championship, is that the greens at East Lake Golf Club aren’t nearly as bad as expected. The heat-damaged greens are expected to roll slower than usual but won’t be nearly as inconsistent as feared.

“I think the greens will be rolling about 9 to 9.5, and we’re not going to press them too much on the speed,” PGA Tour tournament director Mark Russell told the media. “We’re just going to play it by ear day by day, but I don’t think they’re going to get much faster than that.”

The Hippo Hex2 and Tour Edge Bazooka Geomax manage to maximize MOI without packing a huge price tag, Kiel Christianson writes at GolfInstruction.com.

Dot,

This request is way off topic, but the subject has been around for a while.

With the LPGA qualifying tournaments about to start next Wednesday, a young girl whose parents are members at our club, as well as quite a few others from the Chicago area will attempting the "Q" school in either Florida or California.

To your knowledge, will either or both Alexis Thompson and Michelle Wie be competing at either of these venues?

Thanks.

Alex
