The anticipated renewal of the duel between Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods was not to be, as Mickelson withdrew from the Memorial Tournament after just 11 holes with an injured left wrist.
“I don’t think it’s anything serious but it just got worse. I couldn’t grab the club and I couldn’t swing,” Mickelson told the Associated Press. “I hit a wedge on two and it got really aggravated.”
Mickelson was 2-over when he withdrew. It was unclear where Mickelson got the injury, but it is believed it could have occurred recently when Lefty was playing a practice round at Oakmont, home of this year’s U.S. Open.
