Rory Sabbatini showed that he can back up his mouth with his game, as he held off Jim Furyk and Bernhard Langer in a playoff to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Third-round leader Scott Verplank finished with a 71 to finish tied for seventh. Anders Hansen, a longtime pro trying to make it on the PGA Tour this year, beat Justin Rose on the first playoff hole to win the BMW PGA Championship. It is the second time Hansen has won the prestigious European PGA Tour event. Vijay Singh used a best-of-the-day final round of 66 to finish third.
Zimbabwe’s Denis Watson won for the first time on U.S. soil in 23 years, as he held off Eduardo Romero to win the Senior PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. Watson becomes the first international Senior PGA winner since Gary Player in 1990. …
Young Kim recorded her first LPGA Tour victory in more than 100 events, as she birdied two of her final five holes to hold off Paula Creamer and Mi Hyun Kim to win the Corning Classic. …
