Local favorites Justin Rose and Paul Broadhurst are the first round leaders at the European PGA Tour’s BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, both posting six-under-par 66s. Another Brit, Simon Khan, is one shot back, as is world No. 5 Ernie Els at 3-under. Other notables in contention are Padraig Harrington, winner of last week’s Irish Open, who is at 3-under and Jose Marie Olazabal and Colin Montgomerie, both at 2-under-par. …

PGA Tour rookie Anthony Kim is the early leader at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in Forth Worth, Texas. Kim fired a 7-under-par 63 that included six birdies on his last six holes, the longest birdie streak on the tour this season. World No. 3 Jim Furyk, the only top ranked golfer in the field this week, was 1-under through five holes when play was suspended due to heavy thunderstorms. First round action did not resume yesterday and so continues this morning. …

Argentinean Eduardo Romero shot a 4-under-par 68 yesterday to take the first round lead at the Senior PGA Championship. He made only one bogey, and leads Japan’s Joe Ozaki by a stroke. Nick Price, making his Senior PGA Championship debut, shot 71 and is three back. …

So, there’s a Sorenstam at the top of the leaderboard at the LPGA Tour’s Corning Classic - just not that Sorenstam. Annika’s sister Charlotta shot an eight-under-par 64 to take the first round lead yest. Beth Bader is one shot back, and Shi Hyun Ahn is two.

Over at TravelGolf.com, Chris Baldwin ponders the paradox of PGA Tour pro Hank Kuehne. The guy can’t play golf, but he can sure pick up the babes.
