Charlie Wi leads Honda Classic; The Masters to offer new online coverage

Charlie Wi shot a 5-under-par 65 at PGA National yesterday to take the first round lead at the Honda Classic. Bernhard Langer is one stroke back in second place …

“Today was definitely my day hitting the ball,” said Wi, who only missed two fairways. “And I’m really happy that when you have the opportunity, you capitalize on it. That’s really important to me.”

The Masters is implementing its strategy to grow the tournament’s audience through new media by showing an hour of coverage on its Web site before the telecast begins. Called “Masters Extra,” the online broadcast will run from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT during the first two rounds of the event, which will be held April 5-8. It will also precede network coverage on Saturday and Sunday …

Oliver Wilson shot a 6-under-par 66 today to take the lead at the Johnnie Walker Classic, being played in Phuket, Thailand, at the Blue Canyon Country Club. Wilson shot two eagles to finish the day one stroke ahead of Anton Haig, who carded an 8-under 64 …

Two years ago at the John Deere Classic, Wi's caddie overheard a fan saying, "Oh, that's Michelle Wie's dad. He got a sponsor's invite too!".
