While it isn’t the best ever, Tiger Woods’ 2006 season is one of the most impressive in the history of golf, columnist Jason Sobel recently wrote on ESPN.com. Woods won eight times this year, took home two majors and was honored as PGA Tour player of the year for the eighth time. But he also suffered the loss of his father, Earl Woods, who died on May 3.
“All of it came with a heavy heart, which tells us this much about what Woods accomplished in 2006: The real brilliance of his season cannot be recalled in numbers or visual highlights,” Sobel wrote. “It had to be lived, witnessed.”
