Wie misses the cut at Casio World Open; Sorenstam to sit out World Cup of Golf

Friday November 24, 2006 | 06:08:12 am 105 words, 1941 views

For the 11th time in 12 efforts, Michelle Wie missed the cut at a men’s event today. Wie went 17-over-par in two rounds at the Casio World Open in Japan to finish in second to last place …

Annika Sorenstam will not compete in the World Cup of Golf at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa, in January. Sorenstam, who won the event with Liselotte Neumann this year, said it interfered with her preparations for the 2007 season …

Australian amateur Aaron Pike jumped out to an early lead at the Australian Masters yesterday, shooting an 8-under 64. Pike, 21, is one stroke ahead of Nick Dougherty.

How dare Annika make a pass on the World Cup and the ADT Championship? She is dissapointing her country and her fans.

From now on, I will lump Annika in the same category as Mickelson who decided to end his season early, and also Tiger who decided not to play in the late season events.

They are on top of their profession, but also selfish and do not care about their fans

Who cares whether these people turn up for these phony team events?
Most of the people in Sweden aren't even aware that these events exist.

True, they don't care about fans, but they sure care about the bloggers by
giving them stuff to write about. Why, it's been so busy in the golf blog
universe that we actually discovered that Dot Wong actually exists. She
even told Ron Monkey to "kiss my butt" on somebody else's blog. Such rare
commentary!

Be careful what you wish for Dot.....

Blue Eyes,

Do you actually know what you're talking about? Annika did compete in the ADT Championship--unfortunately, not very well.

As for the World Cup--why you so offended when golfers decline to play a certain tourney? You sound very much uninformed about the nature of pro golf.

bill, The guy that finished one stroke more that Bubbles was an AMATEUR. Bubbles as we all know is a professional, wealthy beyond comprehension, and soon to be a multiple majors winner on both the LPGA and PGA tours. What should be noted was that the Casio was a second-rate event at best, the field was only 102 players originally, one of the best players in the field, Colin Montgomerie withdrew, and Bubbles still couldn't come close to making the cut. It should be a difficult task for even the most devoted Wie Warrior to come up with another excuse for Bubbles, but I'm sure someone will try.

"Stop" must be the pen name for either Bo or BJ... Got to stop using the "S" word, Stop.

In the Bunker,

I stand corrected, I meant the tourney before the ADT, the Tournament of Champions.

Also....

I was trying to point out that people jumping up and down on Lefty, and to a lesser extent, Tiger for skipping out some events. But yet very uproar was heard when Annika skips an event.

I was trying to be cynical....

ALEX,
THE FIRST DAY MW HAD TO PLAY IN FREEZING RAIN...WE ALL KNOW THAT THE
66 THE JAPANESE SHOT WAS STRICTLY LUCK. I SEE THAT MW WAS USING ANOTHER PUTTER AND A DRIVER...NIKE MUST BE USING HER TO TEST ITS PRODUCTS. I BET THE GALS ON THE LPGA GALS ARE ROLLING ON THE GROUND WITH LAUGHTER.

Booger,
I was in Sweden when Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. There was such a poor reaction from the Swedes that I left the next day for England.

I don't doubt that. Most Swedes are unaware that there are Muslim ghettos in
Stockholm that the police won't even enter. I have lots of friends in Sweden,
but they have all chosen to cease to exist.....or so it seems...they strike me as
detached from not only events, but also themselves.

Well honey, tell daddy what your realistic goals are for the future.

Well daddy, I wanna win the four majors on the PGA and the LPGA tours...I wanna be number one on the Asian Tour...I wanna be number one on the European Tour...I wanna get my doctorate degree from Stanford...and I should be able to accomplish this before I am 20 years old...don't you think that is awesome, daddy?

Yes buttercup, whatever you want is fine with me.

Joe,

You in Sweden when JFK was assasinated? Or is that just your alibi?

BTW, I did not realize you are at such advanced age. I am surprised that you even know how to use a computer...
