Woods wins seventh straight PGA Grand Slam of Golf; Wie struggles in Japan

Thursday November 23, 2006 | 04:34:25 am 131 words, 3288 views

Tiger Woods won his seventh straight PGA Grand Slam of Golf title yesterday, shooting a final round 6-under 66 to defeat Jim Furyk by two strokes. U.S. Open Champion Geoff Ogilvy finished third, followed by Mike Weir …

Michelle Wie is struggling at yet another men’s event. She shot a 9-over 81 in the first round of the Casio World Open in Japan today. Wie has only made the cut in one of her 11 starts in men’s events …

Though he got off to a bit of a late start, Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin successfully hit a golf ball from the international space station yesterday. Tyurin’s shot is expected to be the longest drive of all time, staying in orbit for two to three days before burning up in the earth’s atmosphere upon re-entry.

Dot, You are very kind to call Bubbles' play at the Casio "struggling." To be objective, her play against men has lately been abject failure.

Since she is so wildly popular in Asia, maybe BJ could wangle her an exemption to the Wednesday afternoon Mongolian musk ox and yak herder's league. She might have a chance to make the cut there. No appearance money there, but all participants do get a free gallon of yogurt.

OOhh, Alex, how could you be so blunt on a day when we are supposed to be remembering what we are thankful for? Personally, next year I hope to be thankful for not hearing about the exploits of the Wie Golf Circus every moment of every day.

Love the one about the Mongolian musk ox and yak herder's league. And I'm sure these guys have contract with TW Design to build their signature course. And may I use that phrase if the opportunity rises in the future?

Alex and Dave,

I suspect Dot Wong is not a person. All this 'thing' does is post headlines disguised as blog entries.

Dot Wong,

I am insulting you. If you are a real human, say something in return...Damned it!!!

MW had a dream that she is going to shoot a 59 and make the cut!!

"My score did not really reflect how I played?!" Wow, she is sounding like one of the Valley Girls...spaced out.

Joe,

With emphasis on 'dream'....

If you know who her agent is, you will know they are developing her into a celebrity first, golfer second.

Wait for the book, CD, and movies...

Thanks Baby Blue Eyes. Now, aside from all my other editorial (and sometimes janitorial) duties around here, I need to take time out to prove I exist.

And I leave the opinions to Barry & Stacy Solomon, CB Maxwell, Spencer Hux and the others. Consider me a conversation starter and someone who keeps you updated on the big happenings in the golf world.

Oh, year, and Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :)

If Michelle Wie is going to play agains the men, she needs to play more like a man, When things go badly break your golf cllubs, I wouldn't actually want her to break her clubs--but it would be nice if they could somehow wind up broken.

She plays forged iron clubs with a sweet spot the size of a dime instead of a quarter, all for the sake of an extra ten yards. That is hard enough in the best of times(and no help at alll on the LPGA)--but it has to be murder when you are trying to play out of a slump.

GIVE UP THE FORGED IRON CLUBS.

Jim...I think you are on to something. Unfortunately, MW has been told so many times that she is a "golf phenom" that she really believes it. I hope se doesn't beome golfs Stacy Austin.

JC, Don't you mean Tracy Austin.

Multi-millionaire Wie is rapidly becoming a laughing stock in the golf world. It appears her and her family are eith too blinded by the dollars to see what's happening or just don't care.

As I said, Wie will have her own reality show, CD, movie, bubble head doll, action figures, soft drink, fashion in Wal Mart, children's books, etc.

Not to mention she will become a UN ambassador, adopt a kid from a third world country, speech engagement, corporate appearance fee, marry a rich Korean tycoon's son.

Down the road, she can marry Tom Cruise, join the Church of Scientology, get on Surreal Life, write of book titled 'What If I made those cuts'...

All in all, she is set for life, you will still have to live hands to mouth....

To get her game back in shape, Michelle Wie needs to do what is best for
her and not let what her critics say effect her one way or the other.

To avoid Tracey Austin's fate she needs to not listen to SHARON(I drive with my knees)STONE.

Dave M, You have "carte blanche" to use any of my quaint phraseology. As far as not hearing any more nonsense from the Wie Warriors, we'll have no such luck. The Wie-wee's are licking their wounds and re-grouping; look for them to come back like bad breath as soon as Bubbles plays her first round at the Sony in January regardless of how she scores. Bubbles herself said she sees nothing wrong with her play, and that she remains confident in making the cut at the Casio. Jim C, Wie Warrior numero uno blames the whole thing on her clubs. Go figure.

Blazer,
Yep, your right...it was Tracy. Michelle's attitude is really puzzeling. She finishes last among the pro men and then says..."I really don't think I play very bad." What is sad is the fact that she is still talking about the possibility of making the cut!! She would probably have to shoot a 54 on Friday...what is incredible is the fact that she actually thinks that she can do that. She has gone from being the "little darling of the golf world" to the "spoiled lttle pest" that all of the players love to dislike. They say it is lonely at the top..what is it like to be lonely at the bottom? She is planning on playing in many men's tournaments in 2007. She is either very stupid or very naive to think that it will be "business as usual" for the 2007 season. I see that Leadbetter has been very, very quiet the past few months.

Still no news from the Wie-wee's. They must be consulting their ouija boards and crystal balls for guidance. Come on, guys! Ghet Rheel, One-Putt, Norman! Jump in with some kind words for your darling and her wonderful Koreann parents!
