Back injury keeps Ames out of PGA Tour Championship; Chrysler Championship tees off

Stephen Ames will not compete in the season-ending Tour Championship because of a back injury, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said yesterday. Only the top 30 money winners on the tour are eligible for the $6.5 million Tour Championship, held Nov. 2-5 in Atlanta. Ames, 42, is 18 on the list …

The Chrysler Championship at the Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida, kicks of this week. The event, carrying a purse of $5.3 million this year, was won by Carl Pettersson last season.
