Paula Creamer ties Sorenstam while Wie lags behind at Samsung; Arnold Palmer calls it quits

Annika Sorenstam sits atop the leaderboard at 6-under along with Sophie Gustafson and Paula Creamer after the second round of the Samsung World Championship. Women’s British Open champion Sherri Steinhauer is one shot off the lead after shooting a 67, while Lorena Ochoa and Karrie Webb are a shot off the lead. Michelle Wie shot a 72 to sit eight shots off the leaders …

A tearful Arnold Palmer said he would retire from playing competitive golf after withdrawing from a Champions Tour event early in the first round. Palmer, 77, hit two balls into the water on the fourth hole of the Administaff Small Business Classic, then said he was withdrawing because of a sore lower back. He continued playing with his threesome of Lee Trevino and John Mahaffey but did not keep score, saying he finished the round for the fans who came to see him …

Tiger Woods announced he would not enter the Funai Classic at Disney, meaning he likely will not play again until the season-ending Tour Championship …

Wie is not in form. I think she is tired and she might be better off retooling her swing. I think she is trying too hard: swing too hard and losing some of her natural rhythm. A long break from tourneys and R&R might do her good. Or just focus on school till 2007. The Samsung isn't fun without Wie in contention. I am not watching it unless Wie gets on the leaderboard. I already know how other players play.

too tired.... why does everyone want to make excuses for MW's poor play.
After all, shouldn't she be "dominating" the women on these "shorter" courses?
Remember, MW has been proclaimed the best golfer ever (and that was several
years ago) and now she is 17, no longer a mere "child". How's this, MW played
her best at the beginning of the year and it wasn't good enough to win....
now, she's playing at her normal level... anyone ever consider that! Or finally,
MW is really as good as everyone says... HOWEVER, there are many ladies on
the LPGA are just as good if not better. Wow, what a concept!!!!

BOYS AND GIRLS...YOU ARE WITNESSING THE START OF THE "MICHELLE WIE MELTDOWN." EVER THE OPTIMIST, MW THINKS SHE WILL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE ALL OF THOSE INVITATIONS TO THE PGA IN 2007. I PREDICT THAT SHE WILL NOT WIN HER FIRST TOURNAMENT UNTIL SHE IS 20.
