Update: Venezuela says no to seizing golf courses

Thursday August 31, 2006 | 11:15:38 am 85 words, 1412 views

The plan of the Caracas mayor to acquire two city golf courses under eminent domain appears to have been shot down by the Venezuela federal government. The two courses – Caracas Country Club and Valle Arriba golf club – have a long history in Venezuela’s capital.

Mayor Juan Barreto had said the courses would be used to build homes for the poor. However, yesterday, Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel said Hugo Chavez’s government “does not share the decision adopted by the mayor,” according to the Boston Herald.
