Michelle Wie misses top 18, Women's golf a hot ticket, Maarten Lafeber is heading to the U.S. Open
So close again, but a valiant Michelle Wie misses out on her goal of a U.S. Open birth.
“Obviously, I’m disappointed I didn’t make it,” she said. “I’m satisfied with the way I tried. I played my hardest out there.”
What an exciting time for women’s golf. With the approaching LPGA Championship and names like Webb, Ochoa and Wie all playing hot golf, we can expect to see some fantastic battles. Who can rule out Sorenstam too, her game could turn around at any time.
It’s good to see that there were some other golfers out there that did qualify for the U.S. Open including Dutchman, Maarten Lafeber, who comfortably qualified with a well earned 14 under par at the Sectional Qualifier at Walton Heath.

I agree - can you imagine if Wie had been the only one to qualify! A pretty dull open I'd say.
Since Wie didn't make it, this year's Open will be a quite forgettable as we don't really know much about the other players. You know, the ones that did qualify.
Or - maybe - Wie can get paid to walk around the course in front of TV's and reports so we have a reason to watch the game and read the articles.
BTW - A 15-year old wunder kid made the cut. A guy. Not as exciting - I know.
