“And a child was born unto them.” Well, another page in the life of Tiger Woods is opened. Nine months of a pregnant wife, nine months of anticipation and preparation. Of course, the question looming, how will this new development effect his world renown preparation for the majors? Assuming everything goes well, it wouldn’t seem to get in the way for his next assault at Augusta and his third major in a row. Then on to Oakmont where Tiger has the opportunity to score his second Tiger Slam.
Now things get interesting. Let’s say for arguments sake that the baby is born between the US Open, and the Open Championship. Since Tiger is the defending Champion, I don’t see how he could “opt out” as he is doing now by taking a pass at the Mercedes in Hawaii. But, given Tiger’s desire to become a Dad, and no doubt a seriously “involved” one, like his father, I would not be shocked if he did take a pass. But, then again, the weight of history and his place in it seems to dictate that as long as we have a healthy baby, and his desire to keep the Claret Jug, he plays.
Next point: I hope for the child’s sake he has a daughter. I am not sure just what it would be like to be the “son of Tiger Woods,” but the expectations would be huge. Better he gets a beautiful daughter to dote on, and who won’t have walk in the shoes of the master. One thing is certain, this kid will have a smile that will light up the world.
