I was stuck in the fog and rain of the Central Coast of California over the weekend, so my only golf fix was watching the final of the Nationwide Tour Final in Texas on the Golf Channel. What a treat!
After watching Tiger early throwing clubs and generally being a bit upset of not contending in China, what a welcome relief!
And combined with the new renewal of the NATIONWIDE contract till, what 2012, wow, what a great deal! This is a company with $157 BILLION in assets. I hope to get 1% for this blog. That should take care of my retirement…but I doubt they will send it.
What did I like? I liked the commentary and the blow by blow, shot by shot meaning if the guys were gonna get their card?
Most impressive was the performance of Craig Kanada,(not Canada) who holed out 2 chips on the final two holes to “get his card” as he put it, but WIN the tournament! Congrats.
What was interesting was what he said in post game interviews. He said he wasn’t interested in “winning the tournament” but getting his card. As a result, he focused on each shot, not his place in the field. He moved from 31st on the money list to 11th AND get his card. He didn’t even realize he won the tournament till Matt K missed a 4 footer (low) to go into a playoff. Matt didn’t really care if he made the putt, he gets his card!
The most interesting thing that was said during the “after tournament” coverage by the Golf Channel was a comment made by one of the Nationwide Tour new card holders when he was speaking about “moving up.”
He said, and I paraphrase; The Nationwide Tour is a tight tour, we support each other, we root for each other, and we are friends. I may play against them but I am hoping for the best for my competitors. This is not true on the PGA Tour.
That says it all to me. These guys travel together, eat together, play together, and hope for each other.
What a difference from the PGA Tour, where $ is the new KING.
Just add Zeros.
