Initially the Belfry was so maligned by professionals, many were fined. The course only became associated with the Ryder Cup in 1985, when the Euros finally wrestled the Cup from the insufferable Americans for the first time in 28 years.

While I love the telegenic 10th and the 18th, Lou, I'm just sayin'. There's no reason four Cups were held in the middle of an English potato field except Euro superstition.
So, are you suggesting that we'll see a fair number hitting three-metal to the green on #15 in 2010? Depending, of course, on the wind direction. Or what 380 from the middle tees?

That's not the case. The Belfry was built specifically for the Ryder Cup. The Brits were tired of losing, so they said if we can't beat 'em join 'em. That's why the Belfry looks more at home in Florida.
