It's true, women golfers are faster players than men
Whenever I’m with a grumpy man on the golf course who sees a foursome of women golfers and mutters to me about how slow they are (which is often, actually), I usually just smile and shrug my shoulders. For every time a foursome of women are holding me up on the course, there are ten male foursomes doing the same thing.
Which is why I like this quote from comedian Kathleen Madigan in the Las Vegas Review Journal via GolfGirl Patricia Hannigan:
“Women are more efficient golfers than men. I play sometimes in my mom’s league of old ladies, they’re just faster. They don’t have the ego. They go to the proper tee. If they’re having a horrible hole, they just pick it up and say, ‘Double par’. Guys are slower, because they’re all over the course, they don’t hit straight, it’s ego, and they’re playing from the blue tees when they should not be.”
I echoed a lot of these points awhile back, even suggesting women should be charged less on the golf course. Women almost never look for their balls, partially because they’re not in the weeds as much - and I’m also guessing would prefer to not risk scuffing their shoes for the sake of a ball. Women aren’t the reason that golf courses are long and expensive and seem to require more acres and time now than ever before - men are.
By the way, if you’re a man open to the idea of golf in Hawaii with your better/faster half, click here for my feature on teeing it up in Maui with your beginner gal.
