Loyalty pays off for foursome celebrating their 40th Myrtle Beach golf vacation
Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday has a special going at the moment:
Buy 40 golf trips, get one free.
Okay, I jest. But for a foursome from Pennsylvania, they celebrated their 40th Myrtle Beach golf trip in a row in with a complimentary golf vacation courtesy of Golf Holiday.
Local TV news caught up to them on their trip at the Grande Dunes Members Club, quite a step up, considering these guys booked their first trip for $25 a day 40 years ago. Click here to watch, and click here for my review of Grande Dunes from earlier this spring, a private course that offers limited play to those who stay at the sparkling new Marina Inn at Grande Dunes on the Intracoastal Waterway.
This isn’t the first loyalty trip awarded by Golf Holiday in 2009.
Earlier this year, as seen on Golf Channel’s Golf in America series, Golf Holiday caught word of a group of golfers en route to Myrtle Beach through Charlotte via US Airways 1549, which found the hazard that is the Hudson River.
Regulars to Myrtle Beach, the group was invited down on behalf of Golf Holiday whenever they were ready to make the trip, and eventually made it this April.
Hearing stories about these golfers’ loyalty to Myrtle Beach doesn’t surprise me at all. When I lived there and played a lot of golf all over the Grand Strand, often paired up with vacationers, they were usually regulars, whether it was six years, eight years, twelve years in a row. A lot of these guys were in their 30s. Suffice to say, I get the feeling there will be more 40-year anniversaries down the road. And I’m certain some of these golfers will end up retiring somewhere along the Grand Strand, getting part time jobs at a course as a starter and getting all the free golf they can handle.
