Full disclosure: Ann Arbor native pens feature on Columbus and Ohio State golf and football

Debuting on TravelGolf.com this week is our newest installment of TravelGolf.com On Campus: Ohio State and Columbus.

As the byline indicates, I wrote it. But what the story doesn’t disclose, and what I must tell you now, is that I spent the first 18 years of my life in Ann Arbor. I am offspring of two University of Michigan alums. I’ve drank the water that flows through campus and have been subject to countless hours of Bo vs. Woody quarrels.

And despite attending college at Indiana University, my full-blown malcontent for all things Ohio State had already been fully formed. In terms of giving anything Buckeye-related a fair shake, I am a lost cause.

The reason I was asked to scribble this feature up is that I was in the greater Columbus area last month, checking out one of the Midwest’s best daily fees, Longaberger Golf Club, and what I am thinking might be the best Arthur Hills course I’ve ever played. Also much to my surprise, the people I met at Longaberger & surrounding hotel & golf courses, many of which OSU faithful, were fully-developed and courteous human beings.

Now, I tried to be as fair-and-balanced as I can be with this Columbus feature, but there are certain subliminal behaviors I have no control over. In fact, I turned a rough draft of the feature over to a bipartisan copy editor. This was a good move, because it turns out my subconscious wrote some pretty libelous sentences that may have jeopardized next month’s paycheck that we had to take out. Things like:

We all know OSU hasn’t produced a single graduate in it’s history of higher education - other than perhaps “cheerleading"…

Theologists have concluded that teenaged Jack Nicklaus made a deal with a Higher Being, in which he would suffer through several years of hell at OSU, and in return would be granted his place the most decorated golfer in the universe…

While I’ve never played with a golfer from Ohio who hasn’t cheated, broken 120 or practiced proper course etiquette, the golf courses don’t at first glance appear to be hotbeds of pure evil…

So thanks to my editor these suggestions will never make it to print. In closing, I ask Buckeye fans to read the article - or for the many of you who aren’t literate, perhaps there is a Michigan alum in the neighborhood who can read it to you - knowing I tried my best to be fair.

LOL!!! "have a UofM grad read it to you" - BTuck, that was soooo funny (mostly cause it's true)!!!

And for what it's worth - any discussion of "bo vs Woody" ends with 'Bo all the way'! ;)

Classy Article! At least the golf is better in Columbus than Ann Arbor. Love the Buckeye Trees planted on the U of M golf course also.

Nice, Oliver.

I'm headed to the MSU game Saturday to watch the ugly spread offense get pounded. Should be ugly...
