More buffalo wings, new direct flights and Hard Rock: Myrtle Beach happenings
A few unrelated happenings in Myrtle Beach this spring…..
If you are like me, your body has a chemical connection between 18 holes of golf and the hankering for Buffalo wings and a tall beer after your round.
So the biggest news, in my opinion, is the new Buffalo Wild Wings location in Myrtle Beach. This is my favorite wing chain, barely edging out Wild Wing Cafe. The new “B-Dubbs” is located off Hwy 501 near Carolina Forest.
So, wing buffs in Myrtle Beach, every corner of the Grand Strand now has a bon-a-fide wing joint. There are Buffalo Wild Wings off Highway 501 and off Hwy 17 in North Myrtle Beach. If you’re in the South Strand, stop by Wild Wing Cafe on Hwy 17 Business in Murrells Inlet, or the new location in Barefoot Landing. Wild Wing Cafe has a better venue, especially the Barefoot location with its awesome outdoor patio. Be sure to get the 25-piece sampler platter, where you can sample up to five different wing sauces. Wild Wing has at least 20 different sauces. It’s heaven.
There is also no shortage of Hooters restaurants in Myrtle Beach with four locations on Highway 17, but I don’t like breaded wings. I also feel like I’m supposed to tip the waitstaff extra when I’m there just because they’re showing more skin, and my cheapness outweighs their cleavage…..
Spirit Airlines just announced direct service from Myrtle Beach to Orlando beginning this June. The new service will connect two of the east coast’s biggest golf destinations….
Hard Rock Park is slated to open next month, just in time for the summer beach crowd. It will also be located off Hwy 501 just over the waterway. Though I’m sure its going to be a rockin’ good time, like other locals, I’m just nervous about the traffic problems it could create on the already congested 501….
Another big development is the new Market Commons complex down on the army base south of town. It’s also opening this spring and will feature all kinds of higher-end shops and restaurants (like P.F. Changs and Banana Republic) - a step up from Broadway at the Beach and the Coastal Grand mall…..
Ruth’s Chris is also about to open up a new location on the Marina at Grande Dunes…
So as you can see, plenty of big new in Myrtle Beach this spring, but none more exciting than the prospect of more wings!

You need to come eat wings where the locals eat wings:
Fat Jack’s Wings & Things
353 U.S. 17 Business N.
Surfside Beach
238-3355
I almost hate to give away the location of this fantastic locals’ hangout but feel it’s my duty to share where you can get the best wings on the planet. They’re cooked so the skin is crispy, the plump inside moist and juicy. Flavors are spectacular, from the sweet and tangy house version to garlic parmesan, Texas gold barbecue, jalapeno teriyaki, Cajun and extra-spicy kamikaze.
We have lots of locally owned independent restaurants around the Myrtle Beach area that are better than the chain restaurants you mentioned.
And she has a point Tuck. BW3's is a little too college like. You're all grown up man. Throw in an adult restaurant. And no, that doesn't mean a strip club that serves bad steaks.
I'm headed to Myrtle with the lovely Mrs. Shanks in July. Made a note of those locations because I'm a wing-eatin' somebody! Thanks for the 411.
