One small step for golf, one giant leap for Poland!

There are certain underdog golf destinations I can’t help but root for as they try and gain attention among the many heavyweights like Arizona, Scotland and Myrtle Beach.

Like Poland, for example.

I suppose you can’t really call a country of 40 million people and only about a dozen regulation courses a ‘golf destination’. But they’re doing what they can to bring the game to the masses in central Europe.

Possibly the biggest step towards gaining international exposure recently was recently announced: Krakow Valley Golf & C.C. just scored a Senior European Tour event for the May of 2008. It’s the biggest golf event to ever come to Poland in its brief golfing history.

The event should be a unique stage for the Tour, as I’m sure many curious Euros will tune in to see just what golf is like in Poland. Krakow Valley should be TV-friendly, staged atop the valley with loads of wonderful views of the rustic countryside. (For a WG video of Krakow Valley, click here)

I’m curious to see how many flustered seniors, after trying to navigate Krakow Valley’s tight fairways, walk next door to the club’s shooting range and rattle off a few clips in frustration - like I did when on my visit last summer. That’s one resort amenity that the rest of the world should copy!
