Scottish Open host Loch Lomond Golf Club now has competition in stunning new Carrick course

This week’s Scottish Open host Loch Lomond Golf Club is revered as arguably the top parkland course in all of Europe. As of this spring however, it has company right down the street.

Sharing the beautiful loch waters and Ben Lomond mountain backdrop is the new Carrick course. It’s open for its first full summer this year. I had a chance to preview about eight holes in the fall and was blown away. I didn’t get a chance to play Loch Lomond G.C., but I can’t imagine it being a whole lot better than the Carrick.

Unlike Loch Lomond G.C., the Carrick is a public access course and also features incredible accommodations. Across the Loch is the Cameron House Hotel, one of the most charming hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Golfers can also be shuttled across the loch by boat to the first tee. Colin Montgomerie has a house here that sits on the property’s Wee course.

As far as getting access to the exclusive Loch Lomond Golf Club, you’ll have to find a tour operator that has member connections. Some may not list them in packages, but if you ask they may be able to make a few phone calls and include it in your itinerary.
