Ogilvy sounded off in frustration after his round today at Oakmont. He needs to stop reading Chris Baldwin.
“I know I don’t need to practice out of fairway bunkers anymore. It doesn’t matter if you’re good or not out of them. We should just add one shot and drop it out in the fairway and go.”
“It’s not that you get penalized for hitting a bad shot because you need to get penalized for hitting a bad shot. It’s the complete lack of chance for recovery, which is no fun. It’s fine if you get penalized, but if you miss the fairway by a yard - I chipped it out five yards.
You should get penalized, but I don’t know if it should be as black and white as it is. But again, the best player in the world might win this golf tournament, so that always gives the setup credibility.”
I understand the frustration, but in a sense, Ogilvy is actually discrediting his own major by ripping on the 2007 U.S. Open. He can’t win it every year. Take your cash, go home and come back next year.

He and Retief Goosen owe the blue blazers their careers.
Of course there are also others who like to watch them suffer.(weekend hackers) I would not blame any golfer with guts if they chose not play the OPEN.
