Who says golf isn’t a contact sport, especially when you’re riding around on the roof of your golf cart at a charity tourney?
Nextel Cup winner Jimmie Johnson has learned the hard way that shenanigans on the golf cart should be left with teenagers and cart barn staff at the muni. He simply couldn’t hang on as the driver took a sharp left, he fell off and broke his wrist.
Though I’ve spent my time beating the hell out of carts on golf courses in my days working in the barn at a country club, I’ve never been on the roof of a cart. That’s just dumb, the plastic is barely sturdy enough to support one of the Olsen twins during their anorexic years. Doing donuts on slippery mounds and jumping bunkers is a much more fun - and safe - way to enjoy a golf cart.
Johnson says he’ll miss some silly season NASCAR Race of Champions because of his wrist. If he’s such a good driver, can’t he drive with one hand or with his knees like all of us as we sip our coffee and read the paper during our morning commute? I thought these guys were pros.
