So what??

You had one bad experience on one airline and one good experience on another...Who hasn't - you make it sound like they did it to you on purpose...

It's entirely possible that the very next time you fly Austrian, you could be treated horribly and the next time you fly Delta, it could be the best travel experience ever...

Don't you have anything worthwhile to write about??

Brandon, I agree totally. I've flown extensively, in the U.S., Europe and Africa.

U.S. airlines are FAR inferior when it comes to service. U.S. airplanes are smaller, dirtier and more cramped. They don't offer nearly as many amenities as foreign carriers.

It's like U.S. airlines are third-world.

By the way, C.C., what could be more relevant on a TRAVEL site than writing about air travel, for god's sake?

Just a heads up: take or leave it. Traveling to Europe and you can't afford a European Carrier take Continental if possible through their Newark or Houston hub They feed you real food and snacks. They have in seat entertainment (5 movies to view free with your own headsets free) and whole cans of soda. In europe fly KLM, Austrian. Air France.Italia if you have the chance, all treat you well some may be starting to charge for food others are still free.Plus you can book KLM on the NWA website and many times the prices are as good as Orbitz
Also when Continental screwa up they take care of you..expample: last year our plane arr. late at Newark from Amsterdam and we missed our Honolulu connection by 10 min after customs. they got us on a flight to LA in a hour and put us up at decent hotel with meal vouchers for dinner and breakfast before a mid morning flight the next to HNL, our luggage was waiting for us when arrived. Because of being unable to trace our luggage after our missed flight they gave us each a $100 flight voucher. EVen Northwest (NWA) takes care of overseas
Iwas going through Tokyo to Bangkok, my bags went to Manila. In Thailand they were calling my name trhrough nthr public address at the airport. A NWA rep. explained the situation gave me $50 in Thai baht, a $75 travel voucher and brought me my bags the nest morning.
sorry for the rant, but US airlinnes and lack of service is a pet peeve of mine...and I fly alot...Oh, and Continetal is a perfect 5 for 5 with international golf club baggage.

I'm glad femfan had a great experience with Continental. My hubby and I were returning from Edinburgh into Newark a couple days ago, missed our flight because of multiple delays and were offered nothing...except a flight TWO days later. We spent the night in the airport and were stand-by's throughout the next day...and finally got home...and, thankfully, had our suitcases and golf clubs waiting for us. I guess we should feel grateful.
