Keep blogging! Survivor champ Golf Chick has her say, Part II

Monday April 3, 2006 | 08:51:45 am 419 words, 1302 views

After her stellar victory in the world’s first Golf Blogger Survivor competition, Golf Chick and I had an e-mail exchange where she discussed her views on golfing and blogging. Last week we talked golfing, so this week, let’s see the Chick’s views on blogging!

Golf Chick Q&A Part II

Heather: What are your thoughts on the little golf blogging community that seems to have developed?

Golf Chick: What a bunch of addicted freaks! I really like all the personal blogs that have been popping up. It’s fun to read about other people’s trials and tribulations and thoughts on the game. I don’t really like the more “commercial” type blogs. They have their place, but at some point, you have to stop calling your site a blog when most of your posts are essentially targeted ads and paid/sponsored gear or course reviews. It’s funny, though. I think the majority of my readers are bloggers themselves. We all check each other’s sites regularly!

Heather: What advice would you give beginning golfers? Beginning
bloggers?

Golf Chick: Golfers: Being a new golfer can be intimidating. If you have an experienced golfer to show you the ropes, great! If not, probably find someone (perhaps a pro) that can teach you more than just the swing, but also take you out on a course and show you how things work out there. Don’t be afraid - of anything! Be courteous and follow the etiquette, but don’t be afraid! Fear causes you to tense up which screws up your whole game starting with the grip and working its way through the whole swing. Then you’ll get frustrated and not enjoy yourself. Every golfer out there was a new golfer at some point and we all understand. Just relax and play your game.

Bloggers: Post, post, post! Get enough entries up there for us to get a feel for your style. If you want to get on blogrolls, just demonstrate that you’re going to be around for awhile and regularly posting. Post comments on other blogs to help establish yourself in the community. Be conservative with the ads, and please - no popups! Don’t ask for link exchanges on your first day. Oh, and did I say post, post, post? We just want to read about your golf world. Welcome, and keep it up!

Heather: Thanks for playing the silly little game. You definitely helped make it a lot of fun.

Golf Chick: Thanks for running it. I think we all had a great time playing.

For beginners, make sure to learn how to use your sticks before coming out on the course. And, if you find you are lagging a bit behind, don't be afraid to pick up your ball and move along. The group behind you will thank you for it.

Also, if you are really new and you find yourself out with friends, place your ball on a tee even on the fairway. No one will judge you and you will feel more confident as you swing away!
