Golf Blogger Survivor: Are you ready for your secret word?

Saturday January 14, 2006 | 10:11:55 512 words, 1805 views

My dear golf bloggers, based on the philosophy of “Oh, why not,” I have come up with a little game for you all, and hope you’ll take part.

It’s a little ditty I like to call “Golf Blogger Survivor,” and I believe it will give us all a laugh or twelve. Now, here’s my fiendish little plan: Back when I was just a journalistic minnow, patiently awaiting for blogs to be invented, my mates and I would play a little game. We would challenge a writer to include an esoteric word in his or her story, regardless of the story.

So, if Jennifer Mario was doing a story on damage to the university swimming pool, we’d give her a word to try and weave into her tale. A word such as, “Mussolini.” Jennifer would try and work the word into her story somehow, with double points for getting it into the lead paragraph. So, a somewhat benign story would have us all with the giggles:

Harkening back to the days of Mussolini, vandals did significant damage to the university pool on Sunday evening.

Now, I’d like to try that with you my dear golf bloggers. I am still working out the details of this, mind you, but my plan so far is thus: For those who decide to compete in Golf Blogger Survivor, I will e-mail a word or two to you for you to include somewhere in your golf blog. This is not for you to blog entirely about the word, just to include it in a blog regarding whatever you wish to write about.

For example, if Undaunted Duffer is blogging about the Abu Dhabi Championship, he may be challenged to get the word “emu” into his blog. And I promise to make the secret words as benign as possible.

The plan will be to e-mail the word to those involved, give perhaps three days to complete a blog, then meet back here at Blogger Leaderboard, and judge how everyone did, as well as getting to see what everyone’s secret words were. Perhaps I can persuade the powers behind TravelGolf to give us our own page to keep track of how everyone is doing. And anyone with a blog where golf plays a part can be included.

As for how to judge, I imagine all of you will get to vote. I am hoping a few of you are interested, and will use our little comment area below to add your opinions and thoughts of how we can best do the judging and determine winners (the comment areas are not solely for Michelle Wie judgments, in case you were wondering).

The official start date is tentatively planned for a week from Monday – Jan. 23. The idea is for everyone to be able to do what they like to do normally, but with a little challenge thrown in on the side. So, my dear bloggers, what do you think about my devious little scheme? Are you interested in seeing who will be the No. 1 Golf Blogger Survivor? Maybe it will be you.

Fun idea. Count me in. Only trouble is, I don't blog on the road so the three day deadline could be problematic. A word a week might work.

Goodie! I just knew I could count on the one and only Golf Chick. And, yes, once a week sounds better and more realistic. I suppose I was being a touch ambitious. I am a touch touched after all. :)

Wait, I'm slow. Are we talking about the viewers who leave comments, bloggers from the web at large, TravelGolf bloggers, or all four ... wait, all three? In any case, if my eligibility is confirmed, count me in. I will squat like an emu to get in on this action.

I understand you're confusion, my dear Mr. Mon. I suppose I didn't mention "Golf Blogger" enough in this blog at "Blogger Leaderboard." ;)

So, yes, it is for golf bloggers. Or even quasi-golf bloggers. So I suppose, yes, of course you can be involved. :)

Sounds groovy! Count me in too. A weeks' time frame works for me as well, due to the fact that my newly acquired emu farm needs some TLC.

I'm in! All challenges accepted. No word is too big, small or has too many syllables.

"With his pet emu named Mussolini in tow, Tiger Woods birdied no. 18 to win the Masters Sunday ..."

What do I win!? Seriously, count me in!
