Golf blogger Jam Boy at a crossroad only he can define
Today, I veer from the norm somewhat, with only apologies to all the other golf bloggers for leaving them out, as I hold them in the highest of esteem. Keep typing, colleagues!
But today, one golf blogger will take center stage. The Reluctant Jam Boy penned a blog yesterday that was everything a blog should be. It was personal and thought-provoking.
It seems Jam Boy – who has long been a caddie – has recently been promoted to Assistant Caddie Master at the club he now works at. A couple days ago, he had a very bad day, misreading putts and feeling lethargic. This eventually led to a fairly stern reprimand from his boss.
It also led to Jam Boy wondering about his abilities to be a manager. This got me to thinking about ambition. I think we all know there are some of us who will readily admit to not being “management material.” I know I’m not, and this may give some the impression that I have no ambition toward greater things.
But such is rarely the case. We all have the right to define success to ourselves. For some, it may be to be a powerful CEO of a large corporation. For others, it could mean to be the best caddie he can be.
I wish Jam Boy all the best with his situation and know things will work out fantastically for him, however things go in the following days. And I am sure he is aware that titles and promotions don’t define us or our success. That is our own job.
