Mickelson's PGA victory and a range ball heist have golf bloggers talking

Wednesday August 17, 2005 | 10:39:37 192 words, 1203 views

So now it seems my daft little bloggers are finally chiming in on the PGA Championship:

Bogeyman talks about what gear Phil Mickelson used to win the PGA Championship, while Cody Thrasher reflected on how Mickelson nearly gave it all away, while praising Tiger Wood’s competitiveness in getting himself to within two shots. And the Grouchy one is in a good mood this week after betting on Lefty at 12-1. If you’re buying, Grouchy, I drink vodka martinis.

We would like to welcome Jason to the glorious world of golf blogging. He openly wonders about the mindset of the thief who recently stole 3,600 range balls from a course in Bath in my home of the UK.

“And whoever stole the 3,600 golf balls is out of their mind. I’ve been known to take a range ball or two, but 3,600 is just insanity,” Jason wrote.

Jason, glad to have you on board! And here’s a tip on where those golf balls may be: Find Chris Baldwin. He’s a miserable golfer always looking for an edge. This job appears to have his fingerprints all over it, but don’t tell him I put the finger on him.

I know it is somewhat off topic, but has anyone else shared their irritation with the number of commercials the viewers were subjected to during the PGA broadcasts? It seemed to me that starting as early as Thursday on TNT, it was not unusual for the telecast to come back after a commercial, show the leaderboard, and then go back to a commercial. I realize that we are all spoiled by the Masters coverage, but am I the only one who thought the average commercial time per hour during the PGA was approaching 25-30 minutes, even on Sunday?

God, I would never admit to putting the finger on Chris Baldwin. They put those people in the leprosy colony in Motorcycle Diaries. There's no cure for that malady.

Alex -- I agree totally. I got extremely irritated. I mean, some of their "coverage" lasted less than a minute or two before they were back to hawking their tawdry products.
